What ever happened to Fay Wray? We’ve lost her in the tunnels of time, but the new starlets out there are just as gorgeous as Wray ever was- and we do it with a little bit of air! Sounds light? You’re right! Airbrushing! The flawless coverage and natural translucency that airbrush makeup offers is a huge step in the evolution of makeup art.
When the average person hears the word airbrush, we think of a car being painted, or the final stages of prints for magazines that are finessed into perfection. Today, these processes are accomplished digitally. The model’s print (who already happens to be stunningly gorgeous) is color corrected, her teeth are made whiter, her pupils enhanced, her lashes made thicker, her skin tweaked to perfection, her legs thinned out and elongated. It’s quite an artificial process and it leads me to the conclusion that I – or any farm animal for that matter… could probably model for Vogue. However, what would you say if some of these adjustments could be made on your face instead of on your picture? I said prove it!
As I watched the tiny droplets leave the airbrush gun and dance in the air before landing on the subject’s face I was intrigued. I was sold when I saw a pretty great result dry into flawlessness. “Lets just wait a minute and watch the paint dry to see the final result,” the demo makeup artist whispered. (It reminded me of an episode on the original Star Trek with William Shatner hanging out with a colony of women taking “the beauty pill ” and watching all the “Plain Janes” turning into sexy amazons with the blink of an eye).
Spending time with the system I discovered the secrets that airbrushing holds. The airbrush gun takes the tiniest, most fragile foundation molecule and oxidizes it into a high opacity. In other words, one can wear the sheerest of sheer foundations and have virtually perfect skin. When I took the airbrush foundation and tried to apply it by traditional methods (a sponge and my finger tips) it was too watery to work with. Yet the same foundation passed through the air system takes on a new characteristic and a strength that I have not seen in the twenty-six years I’ve been painting faces.
THE PROS OF AIRBRUSH MAKEUP:
- Maximum coverage with minimal product
- Delivers a natural and translucent look
- Great for oily skin
- Fantastic for overly active skin that tends to “eat” makeup
- Lasts ten to twelve hours – a bride’s best friend
- Does not require powder, which can be aging
- Some foundation formulations are silicone based
- Silicone is as smooth as silk
THE CONS OF AIRBRUSH MAKEUP:
- Set up fee for airbrush technician: $500 to $800. Requires a skilled technician/artist or a lot of home practice
- Airbrush Make-up session $80 to $200
Beauty airbrush is slowly making its way into the television and the film industry. With the transition of high definition television, it’s definitely a makeup artist’s and television personality’s new best friend.

If you have never been to a Day Spa before or even if you have, here are some Day Spa etiquette tips for you to consider. Sometimes customers feel a little awkward going to the Day Spa or just are not sure how they are supposed to behave. These tips are meant to help you relax and enjoy your experience.
Get to your appointment early
Of course it is the polite thing to do, but it is also for your own benefit. You don’t want to get there at the last minute and then feel rushed. Arriving at least 15 minutes early is recommended.
About getting a massage
A masseuse will bring you to your room. If it is your first time, he or she will ask you some questions and take notes so that next time your file can be reviewed before the session. You might be asked to sign a waiver, which is standard. Be honest about any conditions or concerns you have. You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort. You can wear a bathing suit, or keep underwear on or be naked. Then cover yourself with the sheet provided and wait for the masseuse to return. Make sure you feel free to tell the masseuse what you like and don’t like. You are the customer after all.
The order of treatments
If you are going to get a facial and a massage, get the massage first. That way you will be the most relaxed after both treatments. But if you are getting a body treatment or service like a body wrap or leg waxings, get your massage last. If you are getting any kind of make up treatment, always do that last.
To chat or not to chat
Well, it is up to you. Some customers and massage therapists are more chatty than others, but in the end it is up to you. If you just want quiet, just tell the masseuse politely you just want to relax and prefer not to talk. She or he will understand.
Skin care treatments
A full service, professional day spa will offer a wide variety of skin care treatments, including many different kinds of facials, microdermabrasion therapy, chemical peels, and other treatments like Photo Light Therapy. While each service is different, all have the same goal in mind: to revitalize your skin. Some therapies will help reduce wrinkles and signs of aging, as well as address sun damage. Ask questions. Be clear about what you want to accomplish with your therapy. Find a skin care specialist who isn’t just trying to sell you a particular service. A professional will always recommend a treatment that best suits you and won’t make false promises.
Tipping
Of course tipping is optional, but to be honest, it is the thing to do if you appreciate the service(s) you received. Your average tip should be 15% of the service (or 15% of the normal price if you are getting a discount or there on a gift certificate). If you are really happy, a tip of 20% is surely a way to let them know.
How to dress
Dress comfortably and appropriately for the service you are getting. If you are getting a facial you will feel more comfortable in looser fitting clothes than you would in a business suit. It is all about common sense.
Eating before you arrive
Don’t go to the Day Spa on an empty stomach, but also don’t go there just after a big meal. Many services at a Day Spa affect your entire body. Some relieve your body of toxins. An empty stomach could make you a little woozy. A full stomach may not give you the relaxation you wish for when getting a massage for example.
Professional products
Day Spas tend to use professional products, not the type you buy at the drug store. Many of them have their own signature brand of products like The Place of Beauty’s line of “BeComing” skin care products. Ask your specialist about the products being used in your service. Often it makes sense to buy them so that the products you use at home are consistent with the ones you use at the Day Spa.
Payment
Do you pay before or after? It depends on the establishment. If you pay before, remember the tip at the end. At The Place of Beauty, we take payment after your service.
The last word
Remember, going to the Day Spa is about you having the experiences and treatments you want. You should expect a clean establishment and a level of customer service that makes you feel welcome and special and never hurried. If you really like your services, let your friends know. Day Spas thrive on word of mouth referrals.

In Florida, a true mobile day spa is more than someone deliverying services in your home. In fact, there are many services that are not allowed to be performed in one’s home. In Florida, you have to have a vehicle that meets certain criteria and you need a license to operate a Mobile Day Spa.
BeComing Mobile Day Spa is licensed as a mobile day spa. We can perform many services in your home or hotel or other venue, but the law stipulates for example that massage services cannot be performed in a mobile unit. They must be performed on location.
The Advantages of a Mobile Day Spa
Mobile day spas work best for larger parties, weddings, corporate events, and so forth. It is unlikely a mobile day spa provider will drive their Spa on Wheels to your house to do one pedicure, for example. The costs of travel are prohibitive.
However, if you want to have a spa party with your friends, want your wedding party to get updo’s and facials and manicures on the day of your wedding, or want to reward your employees or customers, having a mobile day spa come to you is just the ticket. In fact here is a list of events BeComing can accommodate:
Imagine not having to coordinate your wedding services or a spa party with a conventional spa. No fighting traffic. No waiting in the reception area with all the other customers. Even better, you have the sole attention of the technicians who come out to serve you in the comfort of your own home.
You do pay a bit more for mobile day spa services, but not a whole bunch more. Your convenience and the travel costs for the operator do have an added value.
